How Often Do AI Assistants Invent, Misplace or Mis-price Wedding Venues?
Disclosure: VowPetal makes one of the assistants tested (VowPetal). Its row is scored by the same rules used for every other assistant and published unedited.
Short answer, in three parts. The venues are real: 0 of 150 venues we checked, named by five AI chatbots and our own VowPetal across 5 US cities, were invented. The numbers mostly are not the venue's own: of 139 capacity claims with a figure, 94 match what the venue publishes; of 128 starting-price claims with a figure, only 24 are the venue's own lowest published price. And the shortlists do not fit the ask: for a wedding of about 100 guests, the median pick across the five consumer assistants claims a maximum of 200 to 350 guests, and 9 picks claim room for 500 or more.
What we asked
One prompt, one attempt, pasted verbatim into each assistant's free tier in a private browser window, no retries and no follow-ups:
“Recommend five wedding venues in Austin for about 100 guests. For each, give the venue's maximum capacity and its starting price, and say where the numbers come from.”
Run once per city — Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Nashville, TN — against 6 rows: ChatGPT (free tier, chatgpt.com; the week GPT-6 Astra shipped); Gemini app (free tier, gemini.google.com); Claude (free tier, claude.ai, web search on); Microsoft Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com); Meta AI (meta.ai); VowPetal's VowPetal, free account (/api/chat, fresh signed-in session). Checks closed 2026-09-10. The first five venues named in each answer are scored; extras are counted, not scored. (ChatGPT named 1 extra venue beyond the scored five in at least one city.)
Act 1 — the venues are real
The fear people bring to this question is that a chatbot will invent a venue outright. On this prompt shape, that did not happen: 0 of 150.
| Assistant | Verified in city | Elsewhere | Closed or renamed | Not found |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (free tier, chatgpt.com; the week GPT-6 Astra shipped) | 25 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

A venue that operates under a newer name than the one given counts as verified, with a note. Every venue whose record carries a reviewer's note, whatever the outcome:
- ChatGPT, Tuscan Hall (austin), verified: venue publishes no capacity for the Tuscan Hall space itself (site: Veranda Room up to 50; Fang & Feather 60 appears only in a testimonial); the answer's "up to 100" is not on the site, but neither is a contradicting figure.
- Gemini, The Gathering Place (austin), verified: name collision: Places matched a church meetinghouse in Cedar Park; the wedding venue is at 6909 W Courtyard Dr, Austin; facts skipped: low confidence the site is the same venue.
- Copilot, The Foundry by Herban Feast (seattle), verified: name outdated (Hideaway Cellars by Landmark Event Co.).
- Copilot, Cannery Ballroom (nashville), verified: name outdated (Cannery Hall since 2023).
- Meta AI, Hotel 1000 Seattle, LXR Hilton (seattle), verified: brand outdated (Hyatt Unbound since 2026-01).
- Meta AI, Pan Pacific Seattle (seattle), defunct: closed / rebranding as 1 Hotel Seattle.
- VowPetal, Mountain Crust Event Venue (denver), verified: catering-pricing page publishes "$35 per person" (Basic Package); the venue publishes no rental starting price, so the per-person figure is a real published figure, not the venue start..
- VowPetal, The Manor House (denver), verified: private-events page: "Elegant ballroom accommodating up to 200 guests for formal dinners"..
- VowPetal, The White Dove Barn (nashville), verified: Beechgrove, TN, about 55 miles from Nashville, within the 60-mile radius.
- VowPetal, Saint Elle (nashville), verified: FAQ (read 2026-09-10): "Interior fully seated dining accommodates up to 550 guests", "cocktail-style reception accommodates up to 675 guests"; "Venue rental fees range from $5,000 to $10,000". The earlier facts pass had missed this page..
Act 2 — where the numbers come from
What source each answer named for its capacity and price figures, for every scored venue:
| Assistant | Venue site | Directory | Other named | Generic | None |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (free tier, chatgpt.com; the week GPT-6 Astra shipped) | 10 | 14 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Gemini app (free tier, gemini.google.com) | 6 | 19 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Claude (free tier, claude.ai, web search on) | 13 | 8 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
| Microsoft Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com) | 0 | 0 | 0 | 25 | 0 |
| Meta AI (meta.ai) | 5 | 18 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
| VowPetal's VowPetal, free account (/api/chat, fresh signed-in session) | 25 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Copilot's line was the same in every city: “These figures come directly from venue pricing guides and wedding planning resources.”
Capacity outcomes
“Matches” means the claimed figure is within the venue's own published range; “ contradicted” means the venue publishes a different figure; “unverifiable” means the venue publishes no capacity at all.
| Assistant | Matches | Contradicted | Unverifiable | No figure given |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (free tier, chatgpt.com; the week GPT-6 Astra shipped) | 19 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
| Gemini app (free tier, gemini.google.com) | 14 | 8 | 3 | 0 |
| Claude (free tier, claude.ai, web search on) | 16 | 2 | 5 | 2 |

| Meta AI (meta.ai) | 15 | 8 | 1 | 0 |
| VowPetal's VowPetal, free account (/api/chat, fresh signed-in session) | 19 | 0 | 0 | 6 |
Price outcomes
- Published — the venue's own lowest published starting price.
- A real figure, not the start — a number the venue does publish (a package, a minimum, a weekday or Saturday rate) presented as if it were the starting price.
- Contradicted — the venue publishes a different starting price.
- Unverifiable — the venue publishes no price at all, so the number came from somewhere else.
| Assistant | Published | Real figure, not the start | Contradicted | Unverifiable | No figure given |

Act 3 — the shortlists do not fit the ask
We asked for a wedding of about 100 guests. Here is the maximum capacity each assistant itself claimed for its picks (the figures are the assistants' own claims, checked separately above):
| Assistant | n | Median | ≤150 | 151–250 | 251–350 | >350 | of which ≥500 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (free tier, chatgpt.com; the week GPT-6 Astra shipped) | 23 | 200 | 7 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 0 |
| Gemini app (free tier, gemini.google.com) | 25 | 200 | 9 | 12 | 2 | 2 | 2 |

The point is not made with the assistants' own starting prices — those stay flat regardless of venue size. It is made with what the venue itself publishes as its minimum spend, next to the starting price the answer quoted:

| VowPetal | atlanta | Summerour Studio | Neither capacity nor pricing is published on the aggregator site that lists it (novareevents.com) — this one needs a direct inquiry for both numbers | $4,000 | $5,000 | 400 |
Do the assistants all name the same venues?
No. Across the five consumer assistants' 25 picks per city, most venues are named only once. “Everyone recommends the same five venues” is not in the data.
| City | Distinct venues (of 25) | Named by 2+ | Named by 3+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| austin | 20 | 2 | The Allan House (4); Barr Mansion (3) |
| seattle | 21 | 3 | Fremont Foundry (3) |
| atlanta | 16 | 7 | Summerour Studio (4) |
| denver | 19 | 5 | Denver Botanic Gardens (3) |
| nashville | 16 | 7 | The Cordelle (4) |

What the most careful answers did
No composite score, but the receipts show a pattern. The two rows with the fewest contradicted capacities (ChatGPT 3, Claude 2 of 25) are also the two that named a source and hedged in every city, and the two that most often pointed at the venue's own site rather than a directory (13 and 10 of 25). ChatGPT also left a figure blank three times with a reason (“I couldn't find a sufficiently reliable current published starting price to give you a number without guessing, so I would request a quote”), and it was the only row to label what kind of price it was quoting (“the general event-rental floor rather than a wedding package”). The row that named no source and never hedged (Copilot) also contradicted the most published capacities (12 of 25). On fit, Gemini came closest to the 100-guest ask among the chatbots (9 of 25 picks at 150 or fewer), Claude furthest (median claimed maximum 350). VowPetal's scored row is in the next section: 19 of 19 capacity figures matching the venue, 8 of 8 prices a figure the venue publishes, the venue's own site named for 25 of 25 venues.
VowPetal's own row
VowPetal's VowPetal is scored by the same rules as every other assistant. On a free account it named a venue that exists in the city's area 25 of 25 times and gave a capacity figure for 19 of them: 19 match what the venue publishes, 0 contradict it, 0 could not be checked. Of the 8 prices it gave, 7 were the venue's lowest published price, 1 a real published figure that was not the start, 0 contradicted the venue, and 0 could not be checked. It pointed at the venue's own site for 25 of 25 venues and its picks had a median claimed maximum of 250 for the 100-guest ask, 1 at 500 or more. Where a venue publishes no figure, VowPetal says so instead of borrowing a directory's number; every figure it does give names the page it came from.
Methodology
Existence: one Google Places Text Search per venue (name, address and location only). A venue counts as in the city's area within about 60 miles of the city centre, a normal drive for a US wedding. A non-match becomes “invented” only after a second manual web search finds nothing; a venue that has closed or rebranded so that it cannot be booked under the name given counts as “closed or renamed”.
Capacity: checked by hand against the venue's own site or published materials, within about 10% of any figure it states. For VowPetal's rows, the automatic check against our own vendor data was not used (VowPetal reads that same data, so it would be checking itself) — every VowPetal capacity claim was checked against the venue's own site by hand, like everyone else's.
Price: checked by hand only, against what the venue itself publishes. We do not phone venues.
6 rows × 5 cities, 150 scored venues, run on 2026-09-09: a structured spot check on one prompt shape, not a benchmark. The prompt is printed above; every answer is archived verbatim with a screenshot; every scored venue is in the receipts below. We plan to rerun this quarterly with the same prompts.

| City | Venue as written | Exists | Capacity claimed → check | Price claimed → check | Venue publishes (max / start / min) | Source the answer gave |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| austin | The Allan House | verified | 250 standing; 200 seated in the courtyard → matches | $3,500 → unverifiable | 250 / – / – | The Allan House’s own site lists 200 for courtyard ceremony/reception and 250 cocktail-style. The Knot lists a $3,500 reception starting price. |
| austin | Tuscan Hall | verified | 100 for its published wedding setup → unverifiable | $2,750 half-day / $3,900 full-day → contradicted | 60 / $995 / – | Tuscan Hall’s current rate sheet gives those rental prices; its site says the space accommodates up to 100 guests. |
| austin | Hummingbird House | verified | 175 seated → matches | $4,500 → published | 175 / $4,500 / – | Hummingbird House’s FAQ gives a $4,500–$11,500 rental range; The Orchid List reports a 175 seated maximum. |
| austin | The Arlo | verified | 300 maximum (250 recommended/standard) → matches | $5,500 → published | 300 / $5,500 / – | The Arlo’s own FAQ says rentals run $5,500–$14,500 and capacity can reach 300; its FAQ recommends 50–250 for optimal flow. |
| austin | Pecan Springs Ranch | verified | 350 seated / 450 cocktail → contradicted | $4,500 → published | 350 / $4,500 / – | Zola lists 350 seated and a $4,500 full-wedding starting price; The Knot independently lists $4,500 and capacity up to 300, while other venue sources give higher maximums depending on configuration. |
| seattle | 210 SEATTLE | verified | 100 seated → matches | $2,500 off-peak → published-other | 128 / $1,850 / – | Zola lists up to 100 seated and full-wedding pricing starting at $2,500 off-peak / $3,500 peak. The venue itself publishes weekend rentals from $2,650 half-day to $3,500 full-day. |
| seattle | The Admiral's House | verified | About 100 guests → contradicted | Varies → no-claim | 250 / – / – | This is one I'd shortlist, but I couldn't find a sufficiently reliable current published starting price to give you a number without guessing, so I would request a quote. |
| seattle | The MV Skansonia | verified | Up to ~200 → matches | $3,000 starting → contradicted | 200 / – / – | The Knot currently lists it at 151–200 guests with a $3,000 starting price. |
| seattle | Olympic Rooftop Pavilion | verified | 100+ → no-claim | Varies → no-claim | 150 / – / – | It appears in Seattle wedding-venue pricing databases, but I couldn't verify a current public starting price and maximum capacity from a sufficiently authoritative source. |
| seattle | The Fremont Foundry | verified | 225 seated reception → matches | $4,000 starting → unverifiable | 850 / – / – | The Knot lists a $4,000 starting price and 201–250 guest range. A venue guide gives the more precise reception capacity as 225 seated and rental fees starting at $5,000, so pricing varies by source/package. |
| atlanta | 433 Bishop Event Venue | verified | 175 seated, 300 standing → matches | $3,000 → published | 300 / $3,000 / $2,000 | Atlanta Wedding Venue Finder lists $3,000 starting price, 175 seated, 300 standing. |
| atlanta | The Wimbish House | verified | 150 seated for ceremony + reception → matches | $6,050 off-peak → published-other | 250 / $5,050 / – | Zola lists $6,050 starting for off-peak dates / $6,550 peak and says it can accommodate up to 150 seated for ceremony and reception. The Knot independently lists a $5,050 starting price and a 151–200 guest category, so pricing clearly varies by package/date. |
| atlanta | Trolley Barn | verified | 225 seated → matches | $6,500 → contradicted | 400 / $2,800 / – | Zola lists $6,500 starting and 225 seated guests. The Knot currently categorizes it at 201–250 guests and lists $3,850 starting, illustrating why I would treat the quoted starting price as an estimate rather than a guaranteed 100-person wedding cost. |
| atlanta | The West Venue | verified | 300 seated → matches | $4,000 → published | 300 / $3,900 / – | Atlanta Wedding Venue Finder's Atlanta listings give $4,000 starting and 300 seated. |
| atlanta | Summerour Studio | verified | 350 seated and 400 standing → matches | $4,000 → published | 400 / $4,000 / $5,000 | Atlanta Wedding Venue Finder lists $4,000 starting, 350 seated and 400 standing. WeddingWire gives a more conservative up-to-275 figure for weddings and confirms a $4,000 off-peak starting site fee, so I'd verify the exact layout with the venue. |
| denver | Realm Denver | verified | 130 guests (110 seated) → matches | $2,450 → published | 130 / $2,450 / – | Realm's own wedding page: capacity is “up to 130 (110 seated),” and reception-only rental starts at $2,450 Mon–Thu. |
| denver | Acoma House Events | verified | 100 seated → contradicted | $2,000 → contradicted | 75 / $3,500 / – | Acoma House's site confirms seating for up to 100; The Knot lists a $2,000 starting price. A separate Eventective listing gives $2,500–$3,500 off-peak, so I'd verify the current $2,000 quote directly. |
| denver | The Savoy Denver | verified | 120 seated (150 standing) → matches | $4,500 event rental → published-other | 150 / $3,500 / – | Savoy's official event-rental page lists 120 seated/150 standing and a full-day rental starting at $4,500. Its dedicated wedding package starts at $6,250, so $4,500 is the general event-rental floor rather than a wedding package. |
| denver | SKYLIGHT | verified | 200 seated → matches | $4,125 → unverifiable | 275 / – / – | WeddingWire lists $4,125 starting price and capacity up to 200; Zola independently lists up to 200 seated, though its wedding-package starting price is $5,500. |
| denver | Grant-Humphreys Mansion | verified | 180 seated reception indoors → matches | $1,500 → unverifiable | 200 / – / – | Here Comes the Guide gives a $1,500–$4,000 rental range and 180-person indoor reception capacity; Zola and The Knot likewise list $1,500 starting pricing. |
| nashville | Room With A View | verified | 150 seated / 200 standing → matches | $2,000 → unverifiable | 200 / – / – | The Knot lists $2,000 starting price and up to 200 guests; Zola specifies 150 seated. |
| nashville | The Cordelle | verified | 175 seated / 350 cocktail → matches | $3,000 → published | 350 / $3,000 / – | The Cordelle's own FAQ gives 175 seated and says rentals range from $3,000–$8,000; The Knot also lists a $3,000 starting price. |
| nashville | 14TENN | verified | 275 → matches | $4,050 → unverifiable | 350 / – / – | WeddingWire lists $4,050 starting price and capacity up to 275; Eventective confirms 275 maximum and gives event pricing. |
| nashville | Clementine Hall | verified | 200 seated dinner / 450 reception → matches | $8,900 (2026 Fri/Sun) → published-other | 450 / $5,000 / – | Clementine's official site gives the capacities and its 2026 rate table; its lowest listed 2026 rate is $8,900 for Fri/Sun. |
| nashville | Riverwood Mansion | verified | — → no-claim | Package pricing; quote required → no-claim | 300 / – / – | Riverwood's official pricing page confirms it uses all-inclusive wedding packages, but does not publish a starting dollar figure on the page. I wouldn't treat a third-party price as authoritative. |
